Âmî Osâwâpikones (Dear Dandelion), is a richly layered resource suitable for story appreciation, fostering science connections, and exploration of virtues. As a story for young children, it can be read as a beautifully illustrated narrative of a girl’s love of dandelions. This book is also suitable for exploring themes of resilience, generosity, kindness, and courage. The reader can observe the cycle of dandelion life throughout the year, along with the surrounding habitat. Readers of all ages can notice and appreciate the variety of wildlife embedded in each illustration and connect it with seasons and ecosystems. Hints about the benefits of dandelions are provided through the text “spring healer” and illustrations of dandelion soup, and the ever-present bee can provide opportunities for further learning. Nehiyaw and Eastern European author and illustrator, SJ Okemow, has included language translations and pronunciations as well as an author’s note.
