This book presents the contributions Indigenous People (Mi'kmaq) have made to their, and Canadian, history in North America. The recipient of numerous awards, Mi’kmaq author Julie Pellissier-Lush, helped script this informative book to share some amazing accomplishments and the culture of her community. From activists and heroes to artists, athletes, and educators, the topics covered in this book are vast. Two-Eyed Seeing (or etuaptmumk, which means the integration of both Indigenous and Western learning and knowledge to benefit all) scientists, entrepreneurs, and crusaders have all contributed to this informative, encouraging text. Individuals often overcame obstacles on their way to success, though they remained true to their Mi’kmaq ancestry. Julie Pellissier-Lush, M.S.M, is an actress, the bestselling author of My Mi'kmaq Mother, Mi'kmaq Campfire Stories of Prince Edward Island, Epekwitk Mi'kmaq Poetry, and Amazing L'nu'k, past Poet Laureate for PEI, and recipient of two Queen's Jubilee medals, in 2013 and 2023, the Meritorious Service Medal in 2017, and the Senators 150 medal in April 2019. She grew up all over Eastern Canada and spent several years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before coming back home. Julie graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 2000 with a double major in Psychology and Human Resource Management. She writes, acts, and does photography to preserve the history and culture of the Mi'kmaq for future generations. Julie wrote the poems for the play Mi'kmaq Legends, which has been performed on many different stages in the Atlantic region. It is her hope that this play will someday travel across Canada and beyond so more people can learn about the rich Mi'kmaw history! Julie lives in PEI with her husband, Rick, her five children, and her granddaughter, Miah.

Robin Grant is a seasoned consultant and journalist whose life and work are underpinned by a passion for social activism, a love of the arts, and a belief in the limitless potential of young people. Robin founded For the Love of Learning (now ArtForce NL); launched branches of Journalists for Human Rights, Uth Ink, and Homeless Nation; was awarded the Council of the Federation Literacy Medallion; and was featured in a Chatelaine cover story titled, “The Right to Read: How One Woman Made a Difference.” After moving to Nova Scotia in 2017, Robin launched Digitally Lit: Atlantic Canadian Youth Read. When not championing literacy, she can be found enjoying life with her husband, Mike, his two children, and their three spoiled cats.

James Bentley lives and works on the small island of Île-Perrot, just off Montreal, Québec. He studied and began his career as a freelance illustrator; a practice which gave him a great love for drawing. Anchored in figuration, he now works mainly with acrylic on canvas and acrylic and pastel on paper. Bentley's current body of work is focused on the ocean, portraits, and figure studies. He is always on the search to paint in an inventive, open manner.
