Descriptive Review
Bailey the Bat can’t sleep, and though mama has warned all the little brown bats not to go out during the day, Bailey flies off to investigate a sad sound coming from the forest. Bailey finds a young bull moose tangled in a rope and tries to help, though eventually needs to summon the rest of the bat colony to help rescue this new friend from the circling wolves. The suspenseful text of this colourfully illustrated picture book would encourage discussion of rules and safety, friendship, and asking for help, as well as different animal features. It would make a good read-aloud or independent reading choice for students getting ready for chapter books. Illustrator Noémie Gionet Landry captures expressions of emotion in simple images. | This is the first children’s book by Grant Lawrence, CBC host, musician, and award-winning writer. Also available in French, translated by Rachel Martinez.
48 pp., 6.5 × 8.5", colour illustrations
