Descriptive Review

After being recruited by a gang on the Pâ-ko-sey-i-mo-min reserve, Josh is given the name “Creeboy” because he is culturally grounded and follows the Teachings of his Elders. Josh’s desire to protect his community and challenge social injustice is what draws him to gang life, but the violent reality quickly disrupts his idea of what it means to be a warrior. The story is written from the first-person perspective, giving readers insight into Josh’s struggles with identity, the desire to provide for his family, and his need for belonging. This title is accessible for a wide range of reading abilities.

Editorial Reviews

This novel is an important read for a better understanding of gang power and life in an Indigenous community plagued by poverty and a lack of opportunities.
