Descriptive Review

An exceptional resource for all school libraries and social studies teachers, Finding Home covers topics of colonization, decolonization, migration, human rights, and persecution. Main chapters/themes include “History of Human Migration” (impact of colonization on immigrants), “Life in a New Country,” “Migration Today” (push and pull factors), and “Racism and Hardship” (including British Home Children, Komagata Maru, Chinese workers, and residential schools). Sookfong Lee skilfully explains the distinctions between immigrants and migrants, and refugees and resettled refugees. Each chapter features an inspiring profile of a Canadian immigrant or refugee, migration facts, and a “Moving On” section discussing progress made from discrimination and hardship, complemented by photographs and colourful illustrations.
