Descriptive Review
This book comes from the Nunavummi reading series, a Nunavut publication. In this series, young learners are introduced to the Indigenous Peoples in the Canadian Arctic. This book shares valuable information about the people, traditions, and environment in Northern Canada. It contains images depicting Inuit life, with a focus on Inuktitut language. Students learn about different tools used by Inuit, such as those for the softening of skins and the pounding of seal fat. The images show a breadth of history, traditions, and culture. This book is part of a levelled readers series that uses the Fountas and Pinnell levelling system for ages 5–7. This is a great book to introduce children to Inuit life and Inuktitut language, while building strong, skilled, and independent readers.
