Descriptive Review

Leopold likes to do things his own way. When it comes to dancing and costumes, he likes to be different from others and do what feels best for him. This story highlights the importance of allowing kids to have voice and choice, but maybe not in all circumstances. Sharing stories such as this one gives educators the opportunity to encourage learning about ourselves and the people around us. Leopold is a very confident child, which provides students with insight to self-discovery. The importance of story in personal identity teaches us about human nature, experience, and motivation, all while inspiring us to be ourselves. Sexual orientation and gender identity are also discussion subjects that could come out of this story as a platform to show kids that all activities are gender inclusive. | Leopold's Leotard is Rhiannon Wallace's first picture book.
