Descriptive Review
Aubrey Jean Hansen gathers nine conversations with Indigenous authors to explore the traditional ways in which learning and story are intertwined. Each conversation begins with a description of the author and an overview of their works to embed the learning within a larger context and to help the reader understand the unique perspectives and lived experiences that permeate each chapter. The authors are reflexive in their discussions of their writing journeys, the nuances of Indigenous storytelling, and the difficult topics that they address within their works. This text is a wonderful introduction to Indigenous literatures and literary practices, as well as the ways in which Indigenous authors are shaping understanding of Indigenous communities and culture. It includes interviews with Tenille Campbell, Warren Cariou, Marilyn Dumont, Daniel Heath Justice, Lee Maracle, Sharron Proulx-Turner, David Alexander Robertson, Richard Van Camp, and Katherena Vermette.
