Descriptive Review
This delightfully illustrated nonfiction picture book about mushrooms will appeal to budding young scientists who want to learn more about the natural world. The vibrant and endearing drawings of different mushrooms on each page draw young researchers to observe and gather facts from picture clues. Fascinating facts about mushrooms are well laid out on each page to hook young readers into nonfiction reading without an overwhelming amount of text.
This book strongly supports the big ideas of biology in the K to 5 Science curriculum as students learn about the important role that mushrooms play in healthy ecosystems and their interconnectedness to plants and animals alike. This theme of interconnection also weaves in beautifully with understanding Indigenous ways of knowing and principles of learning.
