Descriptive Review

This anthology is a collection of works inspired by EMMA Talks, an annual event that invites BC women to share their anticolonial, Indigenous, queer, and other perspectives on women’s lives. The formats are essays, art, and poetry, contributed by community activists, journalists, and historians. Readers will realize that there are many perspectives that encompass the feminist community. Furthermore, as the authors narrate the barriers and experiences that have shaped women’s lives, the concept of intersectionality, where gender, race, class, sexual orientation, and other identities overlap to create systems of oppression, becomes apparent. There are many curriculum connections possible with this book, including how stories deepen our understanding about identity, historical injustices in Canada and the world, and how social justice issues are interconnected.
