Descriptive Review

From the perspective of a young Métis boy named Fredrick Dumont, this is a simple yet engaging story that depicts the travelling way of life of the Métis, as Fredrick is invited to journey with his extended family from Batoche to La Prairie Ronde in Saskatchewan in the spring of 1883. Featuring well-known Métis brothers Isidore and Gabriel Dumont, this story gives readers a snapshot of history during a time, just prior to the Red River Resistance, when tensions were growing between Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian government. Written by Métis author Cort Dogniez and illustrated by Métis artist Jade McDougall, this book also provides a wealth of additional resources, including curricular connections and lesson ideas, to support educators to delve deeper into Métis history, traditions, and ways of life.
