Descriptive Review

A wealth of information and understanding is delivered in Yellowhorn and Lowinger's Sky Wolf's Call: The Gift of Knowledge. Sharing Indigenous ways of knowing about water, fire, smoke, and earth as means of sustainable living, Yellowhorn and Lowinger inform readers of the important, interconnected role each element plays in a healthy future for our environment. They explain how Keepers of the land, water, and fire hold Knowledge passed down from ancestors that has stood the test of time. Yellowhorn and Lowinger quote Mi'kmaw Elder Albert Marshall as saying, "When we braid Indigenous science with Western science, we acknowledge that both ways of knowing are legitimate forms of knowledge," and they go on to say, in the Mi’kmaq language, “etuapmumk means two-eyed seeing . . . one eye sees with the strengths of Indigenous ways of knowing, and the other eye sees a scientific worldview, and both are equally important” (page 12).
