Karen Whetung shares the Story of the Corn Chief using poetry and innovative photographic imagery by Lindsay Delaronde. Whetung, of mixed European and Anishinaabe ancestry, conveys the significance of “the sustainers of life,” the Three Sisters: corn, beans, and squash. The characters are illustrated by Delaronde’s artistic use of corn husk dolls. Readers are also introduced to the cultural meaning of corn husk dolls, within the context of the story.
