Descriptive Review

The mother-daughter team who authored this Orca Think book did so to show how girls are engaging online to ignite positive social change. Through global examples, ways in which girls have been connecting online and using social media for good are highlighted: by increasing awareness and support for mental health issues, by speaking out against discrimination and taking action to break down stereotypes, by celebrating diversity and creativity, and by becoming activists for social justice. Advice and tips for online safety and etiquette are included. As part of the Orca Think series, this book is written to provoke thought, inquiry, and action toward a better future. Alongside the main body of text, much additional information is provided in text boxes, sidebars, and notes associated with photos and illustrations. This book received a nomination for the Red Cedar Book Award and is a starred selection in the CCBC Best Books for Kids & Teens.

Recommended.”

CM: Canadian Review of Materials

“Both a history of social media and a guide to using it in a positive way…The usefulness of the information, and the breadth of support it offers for additional purposes, more than justifies its place on library shelves. Recommended”
