Descriptive Review
This is a personal journal of a young teen’s experiences in nature over the course of a formative year. A kindred spirit to environmental champions like Greta Thunberg, Dara McAnulty is already deeply steeped in knowledge of wildlife and is a friend to birds and other creatures he encounters in Ireland, where he lives. The seaside geography there bears occasional resemblance to BC, especially the most rugged parts. Fourteen-year-old Dara is open about being autistic. He comments that colours often shimmer and loud noises can disturb him. Others in his close-knit family are also autistic. This book won an award for nature writing in the UK and may well feed the dreams of those teens who love nature and who carry our hopes for a better future for the planet.
