Descriptive Review
This latest nonfiction title in the Orca Footprints series introduces sustainable fashion. Each page is jam-packed with current information about the fast fashion trade and its environmental and social impact. Terms such as globalization, supply chains, target advertising, and fast fashion are explained along with challenges to inspire all ages to become more mindful of their own consumer habits. Chapters explore the background history of fashion, touching on The Silk Road, Industrial Revolution, and sweat shops, through to COVID’s impact on online shopping and social media and the ethics of fast fashion. Bright captioned photographs, informational sidebars, and accessible text take readers behind the scenes to raise awareness of issues that most have likely never considered, such as the environmental impact of the distressed look in clothing, dyes in rivers, chemical exposure and links to cancer, and the effect on fresh water supplies.
