Editorial Reviews

★ “An indispensable and celebratory primer on the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights. An excellent resource that is as thorough as it is visually appealing.”

School Library Journal, starred review

“If your school or library already has Pride: Celebrating Diversity & Community, that’s fantastic, but I would strongly recommend getting the revised and expanded edition so the young people in your life are as enlightened and invigorated as possible, to make a better future for all. Highly Recommended.”

Pride (Celebrating Diversity and Community)

For LGBTQ people and their supporters, Pride events are an opportunity to honor the past, protest injustice, and celebrate a diverse and vibrant community. The high point of Pride, the Pride Parade, is spectacular and colorful. But there is a whole lot more to Pride than rainbow flags and amazing outfits. How did Pride come to be? And what does Pride mean to the people who celebrate it?

This nonfiction text explores the history of Pride Parades across the world. Using text alongside photos and personal anecdotes, this book will be useful for teaching about the history of the LGBTQ’s struggle for human rights, and will give context to annual celebrations.
