Descriptive Review

This short picture book encourages preschoolers to primary-aged children to learn how to manage their own feelings of anxiety or stress by teaching greater self-awareness and simple ways to easily calm themselves. A variety of breathing techniques and basic yoga poses are introduced through the use of rhyming text and images. The collaged illustrations feature fun photographs of children demonstrating a variety of yoga positions, each overlaid with amusing graphics of animals and nature scenes featuring trees, bird, animals, and flowers. The book also includes a two-page recap of the ten different ways that children can learn to relax, such as tree pose, ocean breath, and downward dog pose. This book would be a useful addition to a school’s social emotional learning and health resources. | Kathy Beliveau is a certified yoga instructor, has studied yoga for children, and has written two other books on this topic.
